Dodge Charger R/T Celebrates Valentine's Day with Winternationals Victory

Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) driver, Ron Capps, had a lot of love for his Dodge Charger R/T this past Valentine's Day. Capps kicked off the National Hot Rod Association Drag Racing season with a victory at the 56th annual NHRA Winternationals.

A string of three-second qualifying passes moved Capps into the number two position on the eliminations ladder. From there, the Charger's performance improved in every round, as Capps won out, on his way to a showdown with world champion Del Worsham.

A hard-charging Worsham put up a fight, but Capps was able to leverage a faster reaction time to edge him out by just eight-thousandths of a second.

“I have the best team in the business and they gave me a great racecar,” said Capps who posted an elapsed time pass of 3.981 seconds at 324.28 miles per hour (mph) in the final to beat his opponent’s 3.962 second /324.36 mph run for the holeshot victory. “The people we had to race was crazy. Robert Hight in the semis was like a final round. There’s no holeshot win without the car that we had. That was big. We had a heck of a day.”
